California's Electronic Waste Recycling Act (SB-20) requires approved e-waste collectors and recyclers to track covered electronic waste — CRT, non-CRT and, since SB 1215, covered battery-embedded products — and to account for it to CalRecycle by category and weight. The filing itself is monthly, not quarterly: an approved recycler submits one payment claim per calendar month, and CalRecycle must receive it within 45 days of the end of the reporting month (14 CCR § 18660.22). An approved collector maintains the CalRecycle 198 collection log as material is accepted. Because payment is calculated from claimed tonnage, the accuracy of that data is directly tied to revenue.
Most California e-waste operations handle SB-20 reporting in spreadsheets, manually transferring data from receiving records onto the claim at the end of each reporting month. This process is time-consuming, error-prone, and creates audit risk when receiving records don't exactly match the numbers filed with CalRecycle. An audit that surfaces discrepancies between daily operations and what was claimed can result in repayment demands, compliance notices, and administrative penalties.
Tayr eliminates this gap. When your team logs a pallet at receiving, they tag it as CRT, non-CRT, CBEP, general e-waste, or non-CEW right at intake — the same step they're already doing. Tayr then produces the claim data with every required field populated directly from those receiving records. The data that drives your CalRecycle claim is the same data that runs your daily operations. No reconciliation required.
